Holy InnocentsGod left her desolate?Rachel, weeping for her children,while terror then as nowvents fear and fury on the weakand defenceless?Sword flash in Bethlehem,bomb flash in Baghdad,slice open hearts that never heal.Yet he himself gathersup all history’s desolationsinto one, massive, crucified, hurled*WHY?*and with his life snuffed out,inhales the ferocity of all darknessand shouts*LET THERE BE LIGHT *
