Soon enough bare branchesreaching out skywardslike tilted antlerswill flood into leaf as the sap surges.Eager to make the most of winterand not to wish it away unheeded,I count its many blessings,not least the companionship of the chilledwhich huddles us togetherand takes a friend’s arm in case he slips.Perhaps there is mercy in severity if we but see it.And, like a plunge into a cold bath,it can shake the soul into deeper inspiration
